Katherine Parthimos
Katherine Parthimos is a Montreal based inter-disciplinary artist and recent graduate of Concordia University. Primarily based in painting, she is interested in exploring imagery of people and their relationships in a modern day setting through the use of cultural references and a bright, distinct art- style.
Katherine Parthimos depicts scenes of people and their relationships in a state of motion and conversation as well as the contrary, silence and the feeling of singularity in in a group of people. She draws inspiration from moments in her everyday life and transform them into completely interpretive narratives by abandoning her personal ties to the imagery. The imagination of the audience becomes a collaborative dialog when engaging with her artwork as each individual can offer their own perspective. In her practice, Parthimos studies the interconnected themes of body language, vulnerability, communication and community through the use of interesting compositions, colours and symbols.
Katherine Parthimos has been exploring the fine line between being connected and disconnected with the people and objects around her. Through body language, Parthimos is interested in studying how the objects of the domestic world are a part of every conversation and how they can be used as modes of communication.
